Information on the procedure for ensuring access to healthcare services for persons with functional impairments
In accordance with Cabinet Regulation No. 60 of 20 January 2009, “Regulations Regarding the Mandatory Requirements for Medical Treatment Institutions and Their Structural Units” (amended by Regulation No. 1463 of 10 December 2013), the following procedure has been established to ensure access to healthcare services for persons with functional impairments:
1. Persons with functional impairments are provided access to all available healthcare services in accordance with the approved medical technologies.
2. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the reception desk by phone, calling the doctor directly or visiting the clinic’s website.
3. If a patient or visitor needs additional assistance to enter the medical treatment institution and/or reach the doctor’s office, assistance can be requested at the reception desk.
4. When providing services to patients with functional impairments, the doctor also observes the following conditions:
4.1. within their capabilities, assists persons with functional impairments and, where necessary, involves the patient’s relatives or uses assistive devices to help move patients and facilitate access to services;
4.2. the procedure table of the examination equipment is adapted for persons with functional impairments, and easily accessible toilet facilities are available on the ground floor;
4.3. communication with persons with hearing impairments is provided using visual information or written communication, by involving the patient’s relatives or specially trained support persons from the Latvian Association of the Deaf;
4.4. persons with visual impairments are provided with additional assistance from an accompanying person;
4.5. information about the healthcare services provided to persons with mental impairments is presented to their relatives in a clear and understandable manner.
5. The toilet for persons with functional impairments is also accessible to wheelchair users.
